The Deciphering of the Tome of Cataclysm

On the celebration day of the Goddess of darkness, Aizahakar finishes a task few would endeavor to undertake. The ancient book handed him by a brave party of Meridian warriors has been deciphered. The words promise a Dark Age to come. A New Kingdom ruled by long dead heroes, corrupted by their own desires. They are the Nine Necromancers and these are their machinations.

The Tome of Cataclysm:

In the beginning there was a book. Bound in the skin of some long forgotten creature of Meridian, it had words for the minds of all beings. It spoke of the darkness, and for the darkness. It spoke of the pale moon and it spoke at great length of power. With the promise of salvation it always began with ideas that suggested infinite possibilities and realities, journeys and destination. Those that thought the book should be studied to gain some form of wisdom. They were given revelation beyond their fondest hopes and so they were corrupted. Those that sought the book profit became wealthy and were defiled quickly. Those that sought the book to rule ascended to a throne and became the thing they most despised. Those that used the book to heal brought insanity onto themselves. Those that used the book for love were vanquished. Those that wanted to be Gods became slaves. And those that sought immortality...

Aizahakar: I will never set eyes upon the Tome again. I have done what I can with it; I am old you know. I have understood but portions of what is written and for that I am thankful to Shal’ille. The last pages only were the ones I could understand. The thousands before... well I can only guess at that. I have taken it to a safe place. The Tome of Cataclysm spoke of an ancient group who sought immortality. These are the Necromancers. I know little of the books power and I care not for its theme, but somehow Qor made a deal with this group using the book. Exactly what the deal is has been lost or forbidden to me. What I do know is the names of the Nine Necromancers and what they hope to gain here.

Nera’aq- The least of the nine, his task was to set up a base in Jasper. From here the group would have a secret location from which to organize their plan. In life Nera’aq was the most renowned teacher of his age. He entered into the group hoping to learn how to create a universal language. Qor's promise of a universal language sparked his curiosity and thus he entered the list of the nine. Nera’aq’s failure to secure a secret base and consequent destruction has made it so none know where the Nine have made camp.

Torreck- Torreck endeavored to destroy the temples of Shal’ille and Kraanan. Once the most skilled warrior in the land, he thought to use brute force to crush the temples and secure a place within them to organize the revolution. By defiling the other gods in such a way he hoped to gain a mental edge over the people and thus gain followers.

Vortya- Vortya sought to bring the temple of Faren to rubble and destroy all the souls of meridian. By thus cleansing the world, Qor would then give her a place among her elite within the realm of night. In life, a brilliant student of science, a student of the laws of nature, she entered the list of nine when Qor showed her the chaos of Faren. The vision of chaos maddened her and brought her soul fully under the influence of Qor and subject to the words of the Tome. The people of Meridian destroyed her at the Temple of Faren.

Purgia- This Necromancer seeks to gain control of meridian through the use of promises and words. He is not a creature of overt violence but being of deception, half-truths and sophistry. He will attempt to get the people of meridian to bring about their own demise through the worship of Qor and the doctrines of the Tome. It was thus that this ancient philosopher was brought to the list. It is through these things that he will capture servants and bring the downfall of the council.

Oggar- She wishes to corrupt the youth of Meridian, thus gaining control of the future of the world. In dreams she comes and promises to heal their wounds, heal their hearts, and heal their relationships, often taking the guise of a priestess of Shal’ille. She beckons to those who are young and in pain. She will lead them to an isolated location and “cure” them of their troubles. Of course they are also cured of independent thought as well, becoming slaves to her whims and machinations.

Ruxxor- Little is known of Ruxxor other than that he seeks to impersonate a person of power. He may already be within the walls of Blackstone Keep or Bourgeois Castle. Once within he may have the ability to leak security and lower defenses at the right time. Ruxxor traded his soul for the ability to create art beyond compare. While this is true, none may look upon this work but Ruxxor himself.

Ulgic- Will take Blackstone keep. His aim is to destroy the Main seat of power in the realm. From here he will control huge army that will eventually march into the meridian to conquer other realms. His goals reach far beyond Meridian. He calls its people his Pawns of Cataclysm. He will offer anyone a place in his ranks as long as they can agree to a life without life. Once this agreement is made, the pawn no longer has a mind of her/his own and is in some form the undead.

Sithox- This demon’s plans are vague. There is mention that she designs a way to get to a lost age, a lost empire, a lost queen, and a lost relic. Her goals on Meridian also include designing a new seat of power from which the Nine may effectively watch over their realm.

Denekus- The first to be named as the nine, He was originally a beloved leader of the people. Qor’s greatest deception was used with him. He was given a throne and worshipped by all as a mighty intellect and compassionate soul. Denekus was added to the list after he watched a full three quarters of his people die at the hands of a mysterious plague. His addition to the book ended the plague, but the realm was ruined and so he became a king without a people.

Qor- Just what pact Qor has made to enter the Tome is unclear. It would be safe to assume that the Dark Goddess has sold some piece of herself to gain use of the Tome’s vast power. What the exact bargain was, is not known, but should be.

Along with this history and prophecy, there exists a mysterious list of ideas titled simply:

                                                                        Rubrics of Ascension

                           1. The world is not as we would have it be.

                           2. There can be only one true god.

                           3. The more people worship Qor, the more powerful She becomes.

                           4. Compassion is weakness.

                           5. People fear what they can not understand.

                           6. Fear brings violence.

                           7. Violence is a powerful tool of control.

                           8. Artful deception brings control.

                           9. To understand Qor, is to lose ones sanity and willpower.
